In Loving Memory of Terry Short

With heavy hearts, we remember 55-year-old Terry Short of Kite, Kentucky, whose life was tragically taken in a shooting Monday night in Knott County.

Terry’s sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones mourning a devastating loss. The memories he created throughout his life will remain close to those who knew him, offering comfort as they face the difficult days ahead.

Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a report of a shooting at approximately 9:39 p.m. Monday, September 28. Troopers and emergency medical personnel responded to the 13000 block of KY-7 in the Kite community.

When troopers arrived, they found Terry outside an apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Knott County Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased at the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, an altercation occurred between Terry and 44-year-old Robert Short of Kite. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged, striking Terry.

Robert Short was located at the scene and taken into custody. He was transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail and charged with one count of murder.

An autopsy has been scheduled with the Kentucky Office of the State Medical Examiner in Frankfort. Kentucky State Police Detective Nathan Roark is leading the ongoing investigation.
