In Loving Memory of Jaffet Cuarenta, Adrielle Vazquez, Emigdio Gutierrez and Jaiden Rodriguez

With broken hearts, we remember 17-year-old Jaffet Cuarenta, 17-year-old Adrielle Vazquez, 17-year-old Emigdio Gutierrez, and 15-year-old Jaiden Rodriguez, four young lives lost after a police pursuit ended in a devastating crash early Sunday in the Tyler, Texas, area.

Their sudden passing has left families, friends, and members of the Tyler and Smith County communities grieving an unimaginable loss. Four young lives filled with memories, relationships, and hopes for the future are now being remembered by those who knew and cared for them.

The tragedy followed reports of gunshots in the 1500 block of Lake Placid Road during the early morning hours. Around 4 a.m., a local hospital reported treating two people with gunshot wounds. A 17-year-old male from Tyler and an 18-year-old female from Smith County were identified as the shooting victims. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and their names have not been released.

Tyler police later located a vehicle connected to the shooting and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit through Tyler and onto Highway 31 East at a high rate of speed. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers joined the pursuit after it left Tyler city limits.

A DPS trooper used a precision immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver, to end the pursuit. The vehicle crashed near County Road 211, according to Smith County Emergency Services District 2.

Jaffet, Adrielle, Emigdio, and Jaiden were killed in the crash. Their deaths remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, pursuit, and fatal collision.
