In Loving Memory of Cassandra Thomas

With profound sadness, we remember 31-year-old Cassandra Thomas of Deferiet, whose life was tragically lost following a devastating two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in the Town of Le Ray, New York.

Cassandra’s passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving a heartbreaking loss. Though her life was taken unexpectedly, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to remain close to those who knew her.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. on County Route 46. According to New York State Police, a southbound 2002 Honda CR-V allegedly attempted to pass another vehicle before colliding head-on with a northbound 2023 Buick Encore.

Cassandra was riding as a passenger in the Honda, which was driven by 32-year-old Nathan Fifield of Gouverneur. The Buick was driven by 65-year-old Gary Neilsen of Theresa.

All three people were transported to Samaritan Medical Center following the collision. Cassandra was later pronounced dead. Both drivers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
