In Loving Memory of Owen Cannon

With heavy hearts, we remember 17-year-old Owen Cannon of Waterloo, whose life was tragically taken in a homicide, leaving his family, friends, and community grieving a heartbreaking loss.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, at approximately 10:14 a.m., Black Hawk County Consolidated Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a deceased person in a bushy area in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street in Waterloo.

Responding officers located Owen’s body at the scene. Police also discovered evidence indicating that gunshots had been fired. His body was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The Waterloo Police Department has identified Owen as the victim of the homicide. Authorities have not released additional details regarding how he died, the circumstances leading to the shooting, or whether anyone has been arrested or charged.

Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Owen’s death.
