Walter Simpson Jr. Dies After Being Struck by Minivan on I-70

With deep sadness, we remember Walter Simpson Jr., 62, of Hesston, Pennsylvania, whose life was tragically lost while he was working in an active construction zone along Interstate 70 in Fulton County.

Walter’s passing has left family, friends, and those who knew him grieving a life that ended unexpectedly. He was doing his job when tragedy struck, and his absence will now be felt by the people who knew him and shared life with him.

The fatal incident occurred Monday along eastbound I-70 near mile marker 159 in Brush Creek Township, southeast of Breezewood. According to Pennsylvania State Police, Walter was operating a construction sweeper when a minivan struck him.

Walter was transported to a local hospital after the crash, where he was later pronounced deceased at 9:14 a.m., according to Fulton County Coroner Berley Souders. His death remains under investigation, and an autopsy was scheduled to help determine the full circumstances of his passing.

Police said the driver of the minivan, a 47-year-old West Virginia woman, is being investigated on suspicion of DUI.
