Berta Loretto Dies After Semi-Truck Crashes Into SUV in Rio Rancho

The fatal collision occurred about one mile north of Northwest Loop. According to the New Mexico State Police, a semi-truck was traveling southbound when the driver lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes, and struck an SUV carrying Berta and another woman.

Berta, who was driving the SUV, suffered fatal injuries and died as a result of the collision. Her 32-year-old passenger was injured but is expected to survive.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash.

New Mexico State Police said heavy rain and road conditions appear to have contributed to the collision. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
