In Loving Memory of Lonnie Booker

With broken hearts, family and friends are grieving the heartbreaking loss of Lonnie Booker, who died after being shot Tuesday night at Robert Rowley Park in North Bellport, New York.

Lonnie’s life will be remembered by the people who shared memories with him, cared for him, and will now carry those memories forward. His loved ones are mourning not only his death, but the moments, conversations, and memories that made him special to them.

According to information from the scene, Booker was shot in the chest at Robert Rowley Park, off Patchogue Avenue near Hoffman Avenue. South Country Ambulance personnel responded and began CPR and other lifesaving measures before rushing him to NYU Langone Hospital in Patchogue in critical condition.

Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel and hospital staff, Booker was later pronounced dead.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department. Officers, detectives, K-9 units, and drones were deployed as authorities searched the park and surrounding neighborhoods for the person responsible. The suspect remained at large as of the latest available information.

Later that night, family members gathered at the hospital following Booker’s death, where a confrontation involving a family member and police occurred outside the emergency department.
