Two Identified After Apparent Murder-Suicide in Palm Coast
PALM COAST, Fla. — The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred at a home on Weyanoke Lane on Wednesday evening, September 30.
At approximately 10:18 p.m., the Flagler County Emergency Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at the residence. Deputies arrived within five minutes and found a man deceased inside the garage from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was later identified as Rakim-Shakur Brooks.
Deputies also found a woman in a bedroom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was identified as Dawn Estrella. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures while Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue responded. Estrella was pronounced deceased at 10:34 p.m.
Two other individuals inside the home were found unharmed.
According to the initial investigation, detectives determined that Brooks shot Estrella multiple times following an argument before taking his own life. The two had been married since March 2024 and were reportedly in the process of separating after being in a relationship for approximately nine years.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit continue to investigate the deaths. Detectives are also examining how Brooks, a convicted felon, obtained the firearm used in the shooting. The weapon had not been reported stolen.
The investigation remains ongoing.
