In Loving Memory of Derrick L. Stewart

With profound sadness, we remember 27-year-old Derrick L. Stewart of Fort Dodge, Iowa, whose life was tragically taken in a shooting early Saturday morning, September 26, 2026. His death has left family, friends, and those who knew him grieving the loss of a life that mattered deeply to them.

Derrick was among three people who suffered gunshot wounds during an incident in the 300 block of South 4th Street in Fort Dodge. The shooting was reported at approximately 12:29 a.m. According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, Derrick suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died as a result of his injuries.

Two other victims were wounded in the shooting. 21-year-old Jayvion A. Wilson of Fort Dodge suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized. As of the September 29 police update, he was reported to be in stable condition. 29-year-old Laquwon A. Moore of Fort Dodge suffered a single gunshot wound, was treated for his injuries, and was released from the hospital.

The Fort Dodge Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are continuing to investigate the homicide. Authorities initially withheld the victims’ identities while family notifications were completed. Police confirmed on September 29 that all families had been notified and identified Derrick as the deceased victim.
